Unlike fluid actuators, electric linear actuators are powered by a motor, creating more precise motion control. Additionally, electric actuators can be used in environments where washdown or sealing options are needed, as well as environments where explosion proof equipment is required. These actuators are available with a variety of classification options that allow them to meet the requirements of different industries, zones and divisions.
Explosion-Proof Electric Actuators
Whether you are working with chemical dosing, hygienic manufacturing or any other process that requires precise control in an explosive environment, it is critical to use explosion-proof equipment. These actuators are designed to contain any internal explosion without causing an external blast, making them the James Bond of the actuation world.
They also offer many benefits beyond explosion resistance, including on/off or jog operation (which can reduce power consumption by up to 50%), locking drives that eliminate the need for manual override and clutch and a built-in thermal protection system that prevents motor burnout.
BERNARD CONTROLS was commissioned to supply more than 30 explosion proof ATEX rated electric actuators from their STX and SQX ranges to the oil depot of GPSPC in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, France. These electric actuators were installed on double block and bleed (DBB) valves to replace older hammer blind / bleeder valves which were being used to prevent re-entry. The customised electric actuator and valve assembly offers precise rotary stem positioning that is accurate to +/- 0.5% of full travel, and is powered by a robust Modbus based communications protocol.
